SaveMoneyCutCarbon helps York nursery save over £500 from simple retrofit solutions

Case study

We fitted tap aerators and toilet displacement throughout the nursery building

Reducing their energy consumption by 20%

And their carbon emissions by 46%

Improving Efficiency with a Water Focused Audit

At SaveMoneyCutCarbon our experience over the past decade has shown that water efficiency can have a big effect on annual water and energy bills. For instance, eco taps deliver water savings of typically between 50 – 70%, while ultra-low flow toilets can reduce water usage by 75%.

Here’s how we helped one of our customers, Muddy Boots Nursery in Wilberfoss, York reduces water costs.

Retrofit Solutions & Further Recommendations

David Ball, our technical lead on the Water Reduction Team visited Muddy Boots Nursery to review where savings could be made on bills, energy and CO2.

While on site, David installed tap aerators and toilet displacement bags to immediately reduce water consumption. These interventions delivered an instant and tangible impact on water usage. Additionally, we found scope for significant savings with further upgrades.

The quick win interventions have achieved a 24% water reduction, 20% energy reduction and 46% carbon reduction across the 9 assets upgraded.

Annual savings already achieved:

  • Bills: £599

  • Water: 353,750 Litres

  • Energy: 1000 KWh

  • Carbon: 0.23 equivalent CO2 tonnes

Further Recommendations:

The SaveMoneyCutCarbon team also identified that more potential savings could be won with further upgrades. Taps, toilets and urinals could be made more efficient and there is scope for installing a rainwater harvesting system.

Annual savings could be:

  • Bills: £5,456

  • Water: 473,750 litres

  • Energy: 9,583 kWh

  • Carbon: 1.9 equivalent CO2  tonnes

  • Payback: 2 months

This project was completed in July 2024.

Further recommended upgrades include taps, urinals and toilets

This could see Muddy Boots save over £5000 annually
