Improving Efficiency with a Water Focused Audit

At SaveMoneyCutCarbon our experience over the past decade has shown that water efficiency can have a big effect on annual water and energy bills. For instance, eco taps deliver water savings of typically between 50 – 70%, while ultra-low flow toilets can reduce water usage by 75%.

Here’s how we helped one of our customers, Stoneyford Care Home in Sutton-in-Ashfield  reduce water costs.

Retrofit Solutions & Further Recommendations

David Ball, our technical lead on the Water Reduction Team visited Stoneyford Care Home  to review where savings could be made on bills, energy and CO2.

While on site, David installed tap aerators and toilet displacement bags to immediately reduce water consumption. These interventions delivered an instant and tangible impact on water usage. Additionally, we found scope for significant savings with further upgrades.

The audit interventions have achieved a 31% water reduction, 46% energy reduction and 44% carbon reduction across the 21 assets upgraded.

Annual savings already achieved:

  • Bills: £1,728

  • Water: 183,522 Litres

  • Energy: 4,043 KWh

  • Carbon: 0.82 equivalent CO2  tonnes

Further Recommendations:

The SaveMoneyCutCarbon team also identified more potential savings that could be won with further upgrades. Taps, toilets and showers could be made more efficient.

Annual savings could be:

  • Bills: £3,180

  • Water: 376,534 litres

  • Energy: 8,830  kWh

  • Carbon: 1.77 equivalent CO2  tonnes

  • Payback: 2 months

This project was completed in July 2024.

Further recommended upgrades include taps, showers and toilets

This could see Stoneyford save over £3000 annually
